The South West Water Green Garden
Commended by the judges for its originality, ambition and flair; Tom’s debut garden at an RHS show was awarded a gold medal.
Inspired by the recylability of water as a precious resource, The South West Water Green Garden highlighted the importance of ‘Downstream Thinking’, a campaign led by South West Water, that encourages individuals and communities to think about the sustainable management of rainwater to reduce the risk of flooding.
Rainwater was managed in the garden by a large swale or rain garden that flanks a path leading off the main terrace. Permeable paving, curved hedges and flowing drifts of planting, interspersed with gravel spread out to form the rest of the garden.
After the show the garden will live on as a part of a landscaping project demonstrating methods and practices promoted by Downstream Thinking at South West Water's Mayflower facility in Plymouth.
